Gmail app for Android now supports more inbox types

Google is rolling out a Gmail for Android update with support for specific inbox types. The news arrives via a post on the G Suite updates blog yesterday, and means the app inches closer to its iOS and web counterparts.

The browser version of Gmail has previously allowed for inbox types like “Important first,” “Unread first,” and “Starred first,” but the option has yet to be made available in the Android app. Following the new changes, you’ll no longer be limited to Default or Priority inboxes on mobile, which should be a welcome change for those who previously had to use another setting on desktop.

Google says it could take “potentially longer than 15 days” for the update to show up for all users, but it should be rolling out now. Visit the Inbox settings in your app by tapping the hamburger menu at the top left and going to Settings > [email account] > Inbox type.
